Meet our Pastor:
On Wednesday, June 23, 2004, Clarence W. Davis was called to pastor the Friendship Baptist Church of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Prior to assuming the mantle of leadership at Friendship Baptist Church, Reverend Davis served as pastor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Christian Church of Reston, VA, for four years. Before serving in Virginia, Pastor Davis was the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Chatham, Ontario (Canada). Rev. Davis is a son of the Historic Hartford Memorial Baptist Church of Detroit, MI.
Reverend Davis, the son of Lugene and Juanita Davis, hails from Detroit, MI (born in Pittsburgh, PA - 1963).
Reverend Davis was graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Detroit with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Religious Studies, where he also was awarded the university's Religious Studies Award for Outstanding Scholarship (1993). He went on to earn the degrees Master of Divinity and Master of Theology from Harvard University ('97 & '00). Pastor Davis is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Denver and the Iliff School of Theology.
While at Harvard, Reverend Davis won the Billings Prize for preaching, as well as the Hopkins Shareholder Award - the oldest endowed scholarship in North America. His other awards and achievements include the Spirit of Detroit Award from the Detroit City Council, Resurrection Day preacher at Dartmouth College (1996), as well as a host of other civic awards and recognition for his contributions to religious, civic and educational organizations. Pastor Davis is the First Vice-President for the Southwest Region of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, as well as a national-body trustee.
As the head of a growing congregation, Reverend Davis defines his role as both advocate and shepherd. His ministry answers God's call to advocate for a more just society, while comforting and guiding those who belong to the household of faith. He lives in Colorado Springs with his lovely wife, Christine Satterfield Davis.
